Meet the X-Pression® Family: A Garden Rose Series with Character

Written by

Mayesh

If you’ve ever found yourself drawn to a garden rose that opens with unapologetic flair, revealing a showy center and unpredictable personality, chances are, it was an X-Pression® rose. This distinctive collection features a wide range of varieties, each with its own floral fingerprint. From soft and romantic to bold and unexpected, the X-Pression series gives designers texture, movement, and visual depth. All while staying true to the garden roses' signature charm.

The hallmarks of most of the X-Pression® are their full double flower; some are quartered, but most have a somewhat informal organization of the central petals. All have guard petals as well as a couple of rounds of outer petals that "cup" the bloom. Most of the roses in this series reflex fully to the corona, revealing an "eye" in the middle. A few of the varieties are marked by a prominent green center made up of calyceous material, notably "Mandarin X-pression" and "Melon X-Pression." At the opposite end of the spectrum, varieties such as "Cotton X-pression" and "Sunset X-pression" barely reflex at all, leaving a fluffy ball shape with no eye at all.

It should also be noted that many of the roses in this series are subject to the terroir of the farm at which they are grown. There can be a marked difference in color saturation, as well as hue, of several varieties depending under which conditions they are grown. Melon X-Pression is a prime example of this, which can range from the color of cantaloupe to honeydew and everything in between. Therefore, it is good to rely on your sales rep and give color them examples so they know exactly what you are looking for.
